A warm welcome to our newest batch of PhD students: Willem Farmilo and Joe Hart, who both joined in October 2025, and Thenmozhi Elango (part-time PhD), who was transferred into our group in February this year.
Willem will be studying hydrogen bond networks in ice systems, with a view towards the diffusivity of hydrogen bonding defects.
Joe will be studying water-based reactions in nanoporous carbon catalysts; he is also continuing previous work on universal benchmarks for machine learning potentials, from his Masters under Gábor Csányi.
Then will be studying NMR signals in the same aqueous nanoporous carbon systems, with a view towards being able to predict NMR signals at first-principles level.
We are also joined by Lucas Araujo, a visitor from Ruhr-Universität Bochum, who will be researching carbonic acid/urea reactions at the air-water interface.
We look forwards to the exciting science that our new (and current) members will create!
